It was a battle for a top four finish and a battle for superiority between the two coaches and clubs (Arsenal and Manchester United).
Before Sunday’s game, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger had not beaten Jose Mourinho in 14 meetings.
Arsenal made one change to the starting line-up with Rob Holding, making his debut while Mourinho rested key stars like Bailly, Pogba, Lingaard and Rashford.
However, this would cost Manchester United dearly as two goals from Granit Xhaka and former Red Devil, Danny Welbeck condemned them to their first defeat since October thereby ending Manchester Utd’s 25 match unbeaten run.
Both goals came in the space of three minutes; one in the 56th minute and the second in the 59th minute.
Manchester United are now four points behind and are gradually losing ground on city rivals Manchester City who are on 69 points.
Arsenal has now moved up within two points of Manchester United with both teams having a game in hand.
Manchester United’s next match is against 2nd placed Tottenham while Arsenal faces Southampton in a rescheduled game.
