Fenerbahce squashes Van Persie transfer rumors

Turkey top flight Fenerbahce, have released a statement which discloses that the club has no intention of selling Robin Van Persie during the transfer window.

The Dutchman and former Manchester United star has been heavily linked to a move to English Premier League side Stokes City but now it appears those rumors have been dismissed, as the club has now disclosed that the 33-year old will remain at the club.

Here is what the statement read:

“In recent days, there have been so many rumors in the media about Robin van Persie leaving Fenerbahce,” the statement read.

“These speculations are not true.  After a meeting with the player’s agent, Van Persie’s transfer to any other club is out of the question.”

Van Persie, who left Manchester United for better playing opportunities, has struggled to find form at the Turkey based side, scoring 16 goals in 31 appearances.

Barcelona signs Andre Gomes

Barcelona has confirmed that they have signed Portuguese star, Andre Gomes.

The 22-year was a stand out player in the just concluded Euro 2016, which saw his side, lift their first major trophy.

According to reports, Barcelona bought the former Valencia player for €40m, though we don’t know how much he will be earning per season, we hope he is just as impressive with the Catalans as he was with Portugal.

Is Rakitic about leave Barcelona?

Ivan Rakitic’s agent, Miquel Sors posted a cryptic message, which has led to speculation about the midfielder’s future at Barcelona.

Barcelona, who seem to have a host of midfielders at the moment, recently signed Andre Gomes, who will join the likes of Andres Iniesta, Sergio Busquets, Arda Turan, Rafinha, Sergi Samper, Sergi Roberto and of course, Rakitic in the midfield.

The 28-year old, who was instrumental in Barcelona’s success in the last two seasons may be leaving the Catalans soon, judging from a tweet from his agent which said: “Cero que es hora de irse…”, which translates as “I think it is time to go”.

Though it seems Barcelona are not in the marketing for more midfielders as stated by Luiz Suarez, Rakitic may leave if he has no desire to battle for playing time with the rest of his team mates.

Siasia releases Olympic squad list, drops Taiwo Awoniyi?

Nigeria U23 coach Samson Siasia has finally released the list for the 18-man squad that will feature at the Olympics, which begins in August.

Noticeably absent from the squad are Liverpool loanee Taiwo Awoniyi, Godwin Saviour and Stanley Dimba. Though they were named as alternate players, they will only feature in the Olympics if one of the listed players suddenly drops out due to injury or unavailability.

Perhaps, it didn’t really come as a surprise that Siasia dropped Awoniyi, who has struggled to find form since he began his loan at FSV Frankfurt.

However, we were really shocked to discover that Stanley Dimgba did not make the list, particularly because he has been an outstanding player in the Nigeria Premier League.
