Rafael Nadal is set to end 2017 as world number one after he defeated Hyeon Chung at the second round of the Paris Masters 7-5 6-3.

The victory moved Nadal to over 1,460 points clear of Swiss world number two Roger Federer in the world rankings which is an unassailable lead before the World ATP Tour Finals in London is played later this month.

Last year’s world number one Andy Murray, is third with youngster Alexander Zverev in fourth.

Nadal will play Uruguay’s Pablo Cuevas later today for a place in the last 16.
