Over 30 awards would be won in a few days’ time at the Nigeria Entertainment Awards (NEA), slated for Sunday, 3rd of September in New York.
Very recently, NEA released the full list of entertainers that have been nominated for each category. Though all the names have been going round the news, only one of all nominees in a category can win.
Winning for every nominee would depend on a number of factors, but voting is one essential criterion, as NEA expects that people vote to ensure that those who are most deserving of the awards really win.
Of all the categories that are up for winning, most of them have stayed the same over the years except the category of ‘Best Gospel Artiste’ which is now ‘Best Inspiration’.
Every stakeholder must see to it that the deserving celebrities win so that there is no case of unfairness.
But truly, apart from the fact that it seems that the nominees of each category do not seem out of place, bagging the award this year may be somewhat stiff because all nominated persons have undoubtedly been in people’s mouths, the media and in the entertainment scene as a whole.
Songs nominated for the best single may not be able to lay claims to some sort of Monopoly of the market because each song was a hit.
For the ‘Best Entertainment Executive’, there might be some inkling that the winner is obvious but no one is in the know of that, until the D-day. Though Waje does not seem to be a ‘gospel’ artiste, she was enlisted in that category as one of the inspirational artistes, most likely for her latest hit, ‘Mountain’.
The nominees for ‘Best Afropop Male Artiste’ and ‘Best Afropop Female Artiste’ are quite steaming. Who would actually win? Just when the thoughts of these abound, ‘Best Rap Act’ is waiting to be bagged. If the Igbo clan are as aggressive on voting on this one as they are in doing business, then the winner is quite obvious.
The NEA most of the time especially since inception has hosted her events in New York. Even if the NEA was established to project the richness of African entertainment to North Americans amongst other continents, she could do finer in hosting here in Nigeria since it is termed ‘Nigeria Entertainment….’
Be that as it may, we look forward to the 3rd of September when stars get more ‘badges’.
