For those of us who watched the highly talked about fight, it is no longer news that McGregor lost to Mayweather, but you cannot deny that McGregor’s loss was definitely not due to lack of strength.

His opponent, Mayweather even affirmed that he underestimated his abilities. Though the fight seemed like a complete knockout, McGregor apparently tried his best.

But obviously, trying your best sometimes is not enough; you need to know when, how and where to try your best, because no one intends to try their best only to lose. We all put in a lot of effort because of the expectation to win.

But, remember, winning is hard. It requires strategy, composure and being unflappable. Knowing when to go slow and when to increase chances of winning is wisdom; which was part of the strategic thinking that Mayweather applied.

The experienced boxer allowed McGregor knock him out in the first few rounds and when he observed that McGregor was getting tired, he began his winning strikes, tough as it may have seemed.

Mayweather said he underestimated his opponent. Lesson: Never underestimate the people you are in competition with. It is not good to be competitive without good cause and when you must, ensure that you understand the rules of the game, the fighting patterns of your opponent and find a good time to launch your own punches. In all you do, fight fair.

But, remember, winning is hard. It requires strategy, composure and being unflappable. Knowing when to go slow and when to increase chances of winning is wisdom; which was part of the strategic thinking that Mayweather applied.

Speaking about the rules of the game and fighting fair, people expected McGregor to become very uncontrollable and aggressive when things did not go his way and rightly so, because McGregor is probably more skilled in mixed martial arts than fighting in a boxing ring and the reality of Mayweather gaining the upper hand might as well have made him very apprehensive and aggressive but that did not happen. Lesson: When things do not go your way in a game or in the scheme of things, even if you fail, it’s honourable to respect rules.

McGregor thinks Mayweather has great composure; He probably meant that Mayweather exuded quiet confidence. Even when things were getting tense, he did not show his fears. Now, that is exceptional. Not everyone can. Lesson: When you are in the storm and trying to let your anchor hold even in the storms of life, do it with some quiet confidence just like Mayweather.

McGregor did not win but he tried his best; it was an interesting fight. That he took the step to go professional in his career in boxing is one feat no one would ever take away from him. Lesson: Even when you do not win, let your opponents and competitors or enemies know that you are a tough one to deal with. He affirmed that McGregor was a tough competitor. Life is usually about having courage; it is not always about winning but even having the courage to dare!

When you want to fight, picking rats to fight with is very not news worthy; fighting giants who seem greater than you, might just be the real deal. Try not to fight opponents that you are obviously more powerful than. Conor is obviously younger than Mayweather in experience and age, but he knew he had some skill and so he went for the greatest boxer of this generation. That’s real courage.

Experience and confidence are probably higher virtues to have when compared with talents and skills. Mayweather knows the game and has had many fights in boxing and he applied the knowledge he has through patience and perseverance in the first few rounds. Sometimes, you let your opponent gain the upper hand so that you can win.

Life is usually about having courage; it is not always about winning but even having the courage to dare!

There is always a winner and loser in every game. McGregor is a champion in his own right. Hardly would Mayweather beat McGregor in Mixed Martial Arts if they were to fight in MMA. Know your strengths, know your abilities, know your opponents, never underestimate them, and try your best. Even when you win or lose, you are still a champion.
