Barcelona’s quest for a new winger has taken a turn for the worse as Liverpool has revealed they have not agreed a £109 million deal with Barcelona for Philippe Coutinho, neither was a meeting held to negotiate with a delegation from the Catalan club.

The Merseyside club still insists that the Brazil international is not for sale this summer.

Yesterday, reports in Spain and Brazil suggested that a transfer for the 25-year-old was into its final stages, however, Liverpool have refuted the story as untrue.

The club also revealed that Barca have not improved their £72m bid, tabled and rejected 20 days ago and that talks of Barca officials Raul Sanllehi, Oscar Grau and Javier Bordas arriving on Merseyside for a meeting to wrap up negotiations with Liverpool were ‘rubbish’.

Liverpool’s two-time Player of the Season, who signed a new five-year deal has no release clause but will likely welcome a move to Camp Nou.

Barca are in dire need for a replacement for Neymar after letting him go to PSG in a £222m deal with Ousmane Dembele and Eden Hazard also in the frame.
