Kenyan marathon Olympic winner Jemima Sumgong has been banned for four years after a Kenyan law court rejected her claims.
Sumgong claimed she was taking EPO (erythropoietin) for an ectopic pregnancy which her husband had no idea about. However, her paperwork was confirmed to the court as being provided by “an imposter” and her claims labelled as “not authentic”.
It was therefore ruled that the 32-year-old owned up to her “unfortunate offence and unintended mistake” even though she was not cooperative enough.
Sumgong who was first suspended in April, is the first Kenyan woman to win Olympic marathon gold.
Her ban which was officially given on the 31st of October, will be backdated to 3 April which will see her missing the 2020 Tokyo Games.
