It is recommended that exfoliate and hydrate your lips. When you are done with that, apply balm or moisturizer to soften the lips and ensure smooth application.

Application: if you are in a hurry then it is good to apply straight from the tube. Or else, use a lip brush to apply your lipstick. This will enable you distribute it evenly and thus last longer. Do not load the brush and your lips with the lipstick at it will smudge.

lipstick2

Lip liner: use a pencil to line your lips so it will last longer. This is because the pencil is dry and will protect the edges from dripping or smudging. You could also use the lip liner as an undercoat since it is already very drying.

Retouch: The fact of the matter remains that you cannot avoid a little wearing off of the lipstick throughout the day. To minimize it as well, ensure that you drink with a straw. Also, at intervals during the day, feel free to blot and reapply. Several coats are likely to last longer than just one.

lipstick3

Powder: if you like the way your lips look and want to keep it that way, setting powder will help. Remember to use translucent powder only. Hold against a layer of tissue and apply through that.

Finally, the shortest and easiest solution will be to buy long lasting lipstick. This is rarely advisable because they dry up the lips. However, if you want to use make sure you moisturize and hydrate your lips adequately before and after application.
