With the changing of seasons, often come changes in our skin and it is not always in a good way. Dry weather automatically means drier skin for many people, with your skin turning scaly and white, causing you to moisturise often. You can use all the expensive creams and lotions you want, but you can also take the natural and cheaper route by eating foods that help to moisturise your dry skin.
Nuts are rich in vitamin E, which has long been recognised as a perfect skin care recipe. Vitamin E protects the skin from cell damage, thus moisturising your skin.
Like nuts, avocado is rich in vitamin E and other antioxidants. The fruit is also rich in monounsaturated fats, which not only keeps skin moist but prevents the skin from ageing and minimise inflammation.
Sweet potato contains an abundance of vitamin A, one of the most important nutrients for preventing dry skin. These antioxidants help repair tissue damage and prevent premature ageing.
Silica found in cucumbers can help increase moisture leading to increased skin elasticity. Cucumbers also contain vitamin A and vitamin C, helping to soothe skin and fight damage.
Fatty fish such as salmon and tuna contain high amounts of omega-3 fatty acids, which help retain moisture and strengthen your skin’s barrier. Know that one of the symptoms of omega-3 deficiencies is dry skin, so eat more fish.
Olive oil contains vitamin E, monounsaturated fats, and omega-3 fatty acids, making it a nutritional powerhouse when it comes to your skin. This heart-healthy oil can help protect your skin from UV rays (is part of the electromagnetic light spectrum that reaches the earth from the sun.) and protect from skin conditions such as dryness and eczema.
