Ed Sheeran has settled a $20m (£13.8m) copyright suit filed against him in the United States, over his hit song, Photograph.

Songwriters, Thomas Leonard and Martin Harrington sued the singer last year June, claiming Photograph had a similar structure to Matt Cardle’s 2012 song, Amazing, which they wrote.

The songwriters claimed that the chorus of the two songs had 39 identical notes, with the similarities “instantly recognisable to the ordinary observer”. The chord structures for both tracks were part of the court documents.

The settlement terms were not disclosed.
