Cristiano Ronaldo turned from a hero to a villain yesterday as Real Madrid thrashed Barcelona 3-1 at the Camp Nou in the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup.

The Portuguese forward came on as a 58th minute substitute and gave Madrid the lead on the 80th minute after a Pique own goal and a Lionel Messi penalty had put the game at 1-1.

However, there was a mad 2 minutes as Ronaldo was yellow carded for taking off his shirt during his goal celebration and then given a second yellow card and a red card a minute letter after he was adjudged to have dived but replays showed that there was a contact from Barca defender Umititi.

In addition to missing the second leg at the Bernabeu, Ronaldo might still get a long term ban after he shoved the referee from the back in the aftermath of the incidence.
