Bayern Munich’s midfielder Arturo Vidal has announced his intention to step down from the national team on Twitter after their World Cup heartbreak yesterday losing 3-0 to nemesis Brazil.

Vidal was part of the golden generation of Chile players that claimed the Copa America title in 2015 and 2016.

“Thank you lads, for everything, for all these years together… for teaching me and for showing a country that with effort and work anything is possible in life,” he wrote.

This comes a day after his Bayern teammate Arjen Robben announced his own retirement from the Dutch team yesterday.

The Chileans finished level on points with Peru, but trailed on goal difference to finish sixth on the final South American qualifying table.
