Nobody wants to lose their source of livelihood especially if you are engaged in a salaried job, without other side hustles. But, you need to accept that Nigeria’s feeble economic position makes the likelihood of losing your job very high. The question many people ask is where are they going to start from? These tips on how to recover from losing your job will help:

Allow yourself time to mourn

It is very difficult to deal with job loss. This is why it is important for you to give yourself some time to mourn and accept the reality. This should take between 3 days and a week. Afterwards, you should start making arrangement to get another job. Do not allow yourself to slip into depression and importantly, do not soak yourself in alcohol because you want to forget about what happened.

Focus on the positive

There are situations where you may be fired not because you are incompetent but due to downsizing, restructuring or merger. So, have this at the back of your mind and stay positive Do not condemn yourself. It may even be a blessing in disguise.

Think about what you could have done better

This is a difficult one. Many smart and competent people get fired notwithstanding if the reason is tenable or not. Think it through and learn from the experience. If you can ensure it does not happen again by saving up or starting something for yourself.

Surround yourself with people who raise you up

You do not need negative people who will bring you down after losing your job. You have to get out of that cycle and network. Meet new people from industry. Also, ensure everyone knows you are searching for a job. You never know where your next opportunity will come from.

Don’t hold a grudge
As far as you do not own the business, you are dependent on the whims and caprices of whoever owns the business. Hence, it may be possible you have a grudge against them that you may want to attack them on social media. Do not go down that route. They have their reasons for doing what they did. You Move on and get on with your life.

Gain a Skill

It’s absolutely important that whether you are on a salary paying job or you lost it, you must empower yourself with a skill. Fact is, even when you have not lost your job, the fact that you know you have a skill you are good at, will boost your confidence and make you less scared of losing your job. The feeble economy has nothing on you if you have a skill.
